Arrests & Suspect Handling
Establishing grounds for arrest, giving instructions, using ERLC arrest mechanics, searching, transport, and closing the scenario.
An arrest is the end of a roleplay scenario, not a power trip. Every arrest needs a clear reason, clear instructions, and a clean conclusion.
Mandatory
- ·Never arrest a player without a clear, roleplay reason you can state out loud.
- ·Use only the arrest, handcuffing, and suspect-interaction mechanics ERLC and NSRP provide.
- ·No random arrests, no unjustified force, and no abuse of police equipment.
Establishing the reason for arrest
- ·State the charge to yourself before you act. If you cannot name it, it is not an arrest.
- ·Lawful reasons: a serious traffic offense the server models as arrestable, fleeing a stop, reckless driving causing injury, hit-and-run, or a warrant from an earlier incident.
- ·A bad attitude, a refusal to answer questions, or a player being difficult is not an arrest reason.
- ·If you are unsure, detain for investigation and call a supervisor rather than arresting outright.
Giving clear instructions
- 1Order the suspect out of the vehicle with clear, simple commands.
- 2Tell the suspect to step out, turn around, and place their hands where you can see them.
- 3Give one instruction at a time. Do not stack commands the player cannot follow.
- 4Keep the tone calm and professional. Shouting does not make commands clearer.
"Step out of the vehicle."
"Turn around, hands behind your back."
"You are under arrest for reckless driving. Do not resist."
Using ERLC arrest mechanics
- ·Use the server's cuff and arrest tools as the server provides them. Do not pretend mechanics that do not exist.
- ·Cuff the suspect before you move them. Do not drag an uncuffed suspect.
- ·Do not use the arrest mechanic as a weapon or to troll. It is for lawful custody only.
- ·If the server does not model a particular action, roleplay it verbally instead of forcing a non-existent command.
Searching suspects
- ·Search with cause or consent. Announce the search and the reason on the radio.
- ·Roleplay the search where the server does not provide a mechanical one.
- ·Do not search a player repeatedly or as harassment. One lawful search per arrest.
- ·Note what you found for the report.
Coordinating with backup
- ·Request a second unit for any arrest that may turn violent or that involves more than one suspect.
- ·One trooper covers while the other cuffs and searches.
- ·Keep the suspect between you and your cover, not between you and traffic.
Transporting and processing prisoners
- 1Confirm the jail is ready for booking before you drive over.
- 2One unit, one prisoner for routine transports. Felony or high-risk transports get a second unit.
- 3Secure the prisoner in the transport vehicle.
- 4Drive to booking at a realistic speed. Not Code 3 unless there is a reason.
- 5State the charges clearly to the suspect at booking.
- 6Note the charges, the time, and the outcome for the report.
Resistance and concluding the arrest
- ·If a suspect resists, respond with the minimum force the situation needs.
- ·Do not exploit game mechanics (repeatedly tasing a compliant player, using a cuff animation to freeze a player outside a lawful arrest).
- ·If a suspect cannot be controlled, call a supervisor and contain the situation rather than forcing it.
- ·Once the suspect is booked, the arrest scenario is over. Do not harass them after release.
- ·File the arrest report with the reason, the charges, the force used (if any), and the outcome.
